President’s Lunch Celebrating Southeast Seattle is what we love to do at the Rainier Chamber. Each year in June, business and community leaders and members gather for the President’s Lunch to honor our local heroes. After greeting old friends and meeting new ones, we sit down to delicious cuisine prepared by a local chef and learn from the keynote speaker, who could be a regional business representative, celebrity, or a public official.
Paying tribute to Southend champions is next. Four awards are presented to those who’ve stepped up for the community and have been voted for by their peers:
· John L. O’Brien Lifetime Achievement Award (individual)
· John Merrill Community Service Award (Individual)
· Norman F. Chamberlain Outstanding Community Service Award (organization)
· Rainier Chamber Business of the Year Award (business)
Next, we “meet” the recipients of the Susi Burdick Memorial Scholarship Fund awards and hear their stories of why they were chosen and what they will study in college. Recipients are chosen for academics, community service and leadership. Applicants need to live and attend school in Southeast Seattle.
The President’s Lunch ends with the new Rainier Chamber Board of Directors getting sworn in to their new term. Tradition is that the South Precinct captain conducts this portion. Rainier Chamber’s Annual Review, an unveiling or surprise, and a few words from our sponsor round out the event!
